Permit Route Pro walkthrough
How to review an oversize or overweight permit route.
Permit Route Pro helps drivers turn an issued permit into a route they can review on a map. This walkthrough follows the app’s import, verification, acceptance, and trip-resume workflow. For a picture-by-picture guide to every screen, see the app tutorial.
The app is in alpha, with incomplete features and limited state support. Check the current state coverage before starting and verify the route against your issued permit.
1. Collect the original state permits.
Start a trip in Trip Planner without entering a name or dates. Open an original permit PDF from your email and choose Add to trip. You can also choose Start trip when opening your first permit from email.
Return to email and repeat until every state permit for the route is in the saved trip. Then review all permits together. The trip receives its name from the verified route after review.
The app also accepts permit images, but the original PDF generally gives it clearer text to extract. Keep each source permit attached to the trip so you can compare it with the extracted details.
2. Check the extracted route details.
Review the origin, destination, roads, turns, and restrictions shown by the app. Compare road numbers, directions, and the order of the route instructions with the permit. Correct extraction errors before accepting the route.
If a detail is missing or unclear, resolve it before continuing. A map preview is useful for review, but it does not establish that the permit text was interpreted correctly.
3. Compare the mapped path with the permit.
Review the waypoints and the path between them. Check where the route enters and leaves each road, and confirm that the mapped sequence matches the permit instructions. The app screenshots show the verification and approved-route map views.
4. Save the accepted route record.
After reviewing and correcting the route, accept it to store its audit record. That record preserves the accepted route for the trip. Keep the original permit available alongside the saved record.
5. Review the entire trip.
Use the full-trip review to check the order of the permits and the connections between their routes. Verify each state permit before starting navigation along the complete accepted route.
6. Resume the verified trip.
Open the verified trip to resume navigation along its accepted path. The app includes off-route warnings; you can see examples in the navigation screenshots.
Does Permit Route Pro issue permits?
No. This workflow starts with a permit you already have. The app helps extract, review, record, and navigate its route.
Which states are supported?
Support varies by state and changes during alpha testing. The state coverage table separates full support, partial support, and work in progress.
How do I try it?
Permit Route Pro is distributed as an Android APK during alpha. Follow the installation instructions and begin with a test permit.
